Frontgrid has launched ParadropVR Pod Hybrid, a new hardware platform designed to bring its high-fidelity, self-steer flying experience to a wider range of venues.

Pod Hybrid takes the proven ParadropVR Pod experience and puts it into a more streamlined package. The design uses fewer materials, reducing the overall cost of the hardware, while maintaining its robust and proven fundamental mechanical foundations. This makes location-based flying accessible to more operators and venue types.

The new design also has a more open structure. Guests can see through and around the attraction rather than looking at a large, solid enclosure. This gives Pod Hybrid a lighter visual footprint and helps it create a greater sense of space within smaller venues.

The contemporary design features a new canopy and an illuminated section behind the ParadropVR logo. The lighting can change colour, giving it a modern and attractive feel, with additional optional lighting possibilities.

“Pod Hybrid gives operators another way into the ParadropVR platform,” says Matt Wells, Chief Executive at Frontgrid. “We’ve simplified the hardware without compromising the high fidelity flying experience. It is more accessible, easier to integrate into different spaces and it still feels unmistakably ParadropVR.”

The ParadropVR experience, in a new format

Pod Hybrid retains the key features of the ParadropVR platform.

Players control their own flight using self-steer controls. The system delivers a wide range of physical movement and a high-fidelity sensation of flying. This makes the experience active and interactive rather than simply something to watch.

Pod Hybrid can be configured for multiplayer operation. Friends and family can fly together and compare their scores. It can also operate in either staffed or unattended formats.

The gamified experience adds another layer. Players collect points, earn achievements and try to improve their scores. The global online ParadropVR league also allows players to compete beyond their individual venue.

This gives Pod Hybrid a strong competitive socialising proposition. Like bowling or arcade gaming, it is designed to be enjoyed together while encouraging players to come back and beat their previous scores.

Content that fits the venue

Pod Hybrid works with Frontgrid’s subscription content library.

The Discover Series takes players on aerial journeys through spectacular mountain environments. Neon Nights offers a faster, more arcade-inspired experience set after dark.  The new Volcano Island game explores the ridges and tunnels of a volcanic island.

Also new and available as a subscription game is ParadropVR Missions: Mountain Ops, which puts players behind enemy lines and challenges them to navigate a dangerous mountainous mission from the air.

Frontgrid can also create bespoke content for individual venues and destinations. Experiences can be based on real-world locations and landmarks. They can also transport players into completely imagined worlds.

This creates an opportunity for tourist destinations and attractions to use flying as a new way to explore their location. Visitors can take control and fly over places they are visiting rather than simply watching them on a screen.

Relevant content can also add commercial value. A flight over a destination, landmark or attraction gives visitors a reason to seek out the experience. It can also increase the value of a visit for people who are already there.
